- Taylor Swift is heavily favored for the 2024 Spotify Top Global Artist.
- Spotify’s Top Global Artist measures the most streamed artist of the year on the platform.
- Swift has an edge over Drake for the most streamed artist of all-time on Spotify.
2023 was known as the year of Taylor Swift, but she isn’t done yet. After shattering multiple records for the Eras Tour and being named the Time Person of the Year, Swift is making moves through the first half of 2024.
According to odds provided by Bovada, Swift (-550) is the odds-on favorite of being the 2024 Spotify Top Global Artist. Currently, Swift has a clear advantage over the competition, with an implied probability of winning of 84.6%.
Behind Swift is Puerto Rican rapper and record producer Bad Bunny, who has the second-shortest odds at +450. This price equates to an implied probability of 18.2%. Rounding out the top three artists is Beyoncé, with +550 odds of being the most streamed artist on Spotify in 2024.
Beyoncé’s foray into country music has received a lot of buzz, but the lines indicate that she is not ready to unseat Swift on Spotify. In 2023, Swift received an unprecedented 29.1 billion streams for the year!
Bad Bunny came well short of Swift in second, with 16.37 billion streams. In conclusion, Swift throttled the competition on Spotify in 2023. With the release of a new album quickly approaching this spring, she has a chance to do it all over again.
Swift Breaks Spotify Records
Last year’s dominance by Swift, 34, was highlighted by several records, including streaming milestones on Spotify.
In October, the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) resulted in the most streamed hits for an artist in a single day, breaking her previous record set in 2022 with Midnights.
In addition to being the most streamed artist on the streaming platform in one day, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) was recognized as the most streamed album in 24 hours.
Will her next album surpass this astonishing mark and break her own record again? With the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
The album is scheduled to be released on April 19, 2024. Swift reportedly collaborated with Florence the Machine and Post Malone for her newest album.
Currently, 1989 (Deluxe Edition) is the fifth most streamed album on Spotify of all time, with nearly 8 billion streams.
Drake Within Reach of Swift’s All-Time Streaming Numbers
As of Friday, April 5, at 75.6 billion, Swift has the most streams on Spotify ever. The only artist currently within reach of Swift is rapper Drake. The 37-year-old native of Toronto has notched roughly 74 billion hits.
However, Drake (+1200) has only the fourth-best odds of being the most streamed artist of 2024. That’s an implied probability of being the Spotify 2024 Top Global Artist of just 7.7%.
With no new albums scheduled, Bad Bunny rumored to drop a new album, and Beyoncé gaining traction on the country charts, Drake is likely to fall out of the running later in the year.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter currently holds the record for the most streamed album in a single day in 2024. The lead single, “Texas Hold’em”, breached over 300 million streaming hits on Spotify on March 29. The album has already surpassed 500 million streams.
Despite Beyoncé’s current dominance in the charts, Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is expected to do huge streaming numbers and undoubtedly put Swift back in the driver’s seat.
Long shots for the 2024 Top Global Artist include Billie Eilish (+2000), Miley Cyrus (+4000), Olivia Rodrigo (+5000), Rihanna (+5000), and SZA (+5000), according to Bovada. Although Swift was the Time Person of the Year for 2023, she likely hasn’t finished breaking records and commanding the spotlight yet this year. The final concert of the Eras Tour is scheduled for December 8, 2024, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
