- Tank Davis has opened as the -900 favorite for his January tune-up bout in Washington D.C.
- Davis is scheduled to defend his WBA (regular) lightweight title against Hector Luis Garcia of the Dominican Republic.
- Tank Davis is also booked to an April super fight against Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas.
Tank Davis doesn’t just have one Garcia in front of him but two.
One week ago, it was confirmed that Davis would be facing Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas. Tank announced it first with King Ryan later corroborating Davis’ statement by tweeting that the fight is a “done deal”.
However, before Tank Davis faces Ryan Garcia, he still has a “stay-busy” fight against Hector Luis Garcia on January 7th in Washington D.C.

Davis has not fought since May 28th when he scored a 6th-round TKO win over Rolly Romero in a mandatory defense of the WBA lightweight title. Tank looked sharp in that bout but considering that it will almost be a year when he squares off with King Ryan in April, Tank probably feels that his tools need sharpening. However, the “other” Garcia is not a tune-up opponent.
The 31-year-old is 16-0 with 10 knockouts. The 2016 Olympian representing the Dominican Republic, burst into the scene with a massive one-sided win over the highly touted Chris Colbert last February. In that bout, Garcia closed at odds ranging from +700 to +1500 but won via a clear unanimous decision.
That victory gave Garcia the crack at the WBA super featherweight title, then held by Venezuelan Roger Gutierrez, last August. Although the victory wasn’t as dominant as his win over Colbert, Garcia still won convincingly and became a world champion for the first time.
Now, El Androide, has agreed to move up in weight to challenge perhaps one of the best fighters in the lower weight classes today in Tank Davis. With Davis’ stature, it’s no surprise why Hector Luis Garcia has opened as a massive +550 underdog. Meanwhile, the undefeated Davis hit the betting boards at -900 odds to beat Hector Garcia.
Despite moving up in weight, Hector Garcia will enjoy a four-inch height advantage over Tank Davis but the latter has a one-half-inch edge in reach. The big issue here is whether Garcia can take Tank’s power. Davis has knocked out all but two of his 27 opponents.

But while Hector Luis Garcia is a crazy tune-up fight for Tank Davis, the main event will be in April when he meets former WBC interim champion Ryan Garcia in a highly-anticipated showdown between two of the biggest boxing stars today.
A 15-time amateur champion with an amateur record of 215-15, Ryan Garcia turned pro in 2016 and quickly captured the hearts of boxing fans with his incredible hand speed, knockout power, charisma, and good looks. He signed with Golden Boy Promotions and quickly became the new face of the franchise.
King Ryan defeated Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell in January 2021 to become the interim WBC lightweight title. Ryan Garcia has an impressive record of 23-0 with 19 knockouts. He was last seen knocking out Javier Fortuna last July 16th in Los Angeles.
Last week, Ryan Garcia opened as a +200 underdog against Tank Davis. Those odds are now down to +185 at the BetOnline App. Meanwhile, Davis hit the opening betting boards at -260 odds. Those odds are now at -225 at the same online betting site.
This marks the first time in his career that Ryan Garcia has opened with plus-money odds. On the other hand, Tank’s opening odds against King Ryan are his longest since opening as the +210 underdog against Jose Pedraza.
