The trailer for the upcoming Avatar: The Way of the Water only has one line: Jake Sully saying “I know one thing. Wherever we go, this family is our fortress,” to Neytiri.
So, the plot of this much-anticipated movie will likely see a displaced main cast of characters.
This second installment in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise will be a huge success at the box office. Although its mid-December release date will give the 3-hour film only 16 days of money-making in 2022, so catching Top Gun: Maverick is highly unlikely.
The Avatar 2 betting odds don’t see this movie topping the year’s No. 1 film at the box office, Top Gun: Maverick ($1,442,343,869), but many estimates have this movie finishing in the No. 2 spot.
Cameron is the writer, director and producer of Avatar: The Way of Water and this is the only movie that he has directed since the original Avatar (2009). He will be in the chair for all of the upcoming sequels and is working with a reported $1 billion budget.
Disney did provide some hints to what we will see in Avatar 2 as it takes place more than 10 years after the first film. It focuses on the Sully family and the challenges that they endure.
Our return to Pandora will also see antagonist Miles Quaritch back as puts Jake, his family and everyone at risk. With a running time of over three hours, Avatar: The Way of Water will test movie-goers attention span.
There aren’t many Avatar: The Way of Water betting odds at the Entertainment betting sites right now, but we’ve taken the liberty to handicap some possibilities as we get closer to the release.
When is Avatar: Way of the Water Coming Out?
The upcoming blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water will be making its world premiere Friday, December 16. The release of the Avatar sequel has been delayed several times, with the latest happening in July 2020.
Despite a 13-year wait from the original, Cameron’s commitment to having the special effects just right for the sequel is the reason why this movie is finally coming out now and not two years ago as was originally planned.
Will there be Sequels to Avatar: Way of the Water
Heading into the sequel’s upcoming premiere, the original 2009 Avatar film has grossed an estimated $2.92 billion dollars since it first came out. With an estimated budget of between $350-400 million, the coming science fiction film Avatar: Way of the Water is one of the most expensive movies of all time. Cameron was given a reported $1 billion budget to make the four sequels to Avatar. The Way of Water connects all things. But the real cost after $150 million in marketing and promotion were added in for the original Avatar was more like $425 million. Titanic was supposed to cost $109 million but ended up costing Fox $210 million. What is the current most expensive movie ever made? That would be Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which was released in 2011 and was made for $379 million, a healthy $152 million more than Cameron’s groundbreaking original animated phenomena. Avatar 2 predictions have the film bringing in anywhere from $135 (Box Office Pro) to $175 million in its opening weekend of release. The original Avatar made a then-record $77 million in its opening weekend and a record $9.5 million gross at IMAX. I am wondering if the 192-minute running time will affect families’ decisions to take their kids to sit patiently through a 3-hour, 18-minute movie in the fidgety Digital Age. Here are the main actors and their Pandoran characters in Avatar: The Way of Water: Maybe I'm looking too much into it… but that #AvatarTheWayOfWater trailer seems to hint at Neytiri's death early on. We see her pregnant, we see her and Jake in some sort of battle, Kiri only shares scenes with Jake, AND they talk about "feeling her heartbeat." pic.twitter.com/UoD5UQ7YAf — Cameron Frew (@FrewFilm) November 2, 2022 Here are the main actors and their human characters in Avatar: The Way of Water: With that $1 billion to work with over four sequels, Cameron is making sure this first one doesn’t let viewers down cinematically or artistically and rumor has it all four sequels can stand on their own and won’t need plot connectivity from previous Avatar sequels. There are rumors that actor Vin Diesel will appear in one of these Avatar sequels, but we have no idea if the 55-year-old California native will be in this one. In July 2021, Diesel told Josh Horowitz of MTV that he hadn’t filmed anything “yet” for the franchise. With three more sequels to come, and Diesel saying he hadn’t filmed anything yet a year ago, maybe Cameron knows he will be using him in Avatar 3, Avatar 4, or Avatar 5. One rumor that can pretty much be confirmed in the Avatar: The Way of Water trailers we have seen is that Jake Sully, Neytiri and their family and the oceanic Navi clan Metkayin will join forces with the Omaticaya clan to battle the humans in the reefs of Pandora. With two sons and two daughters already, it’s hard to tell if Jake Sully and Neytiri will have a baby boy or a baby girl next, but with so much female power coming to the forefront in cinema lately and Kiri’s heavy role here, the lean here is to a new baby sister. 12.16.22 #AvatarTheWayOfWater pic.twitter.com/fqbn4F1mw5 — Avatar (@officialavatar) December 4, 2022 Cameron is the master at working with monster budgets. As we saw with Titanic and the first Avatar, James can make the money back, while serving up some of the most creative and ground-breaking movies in cinema. With this franchise, Cameron employs a motion and performance capture technique where scenes are filmed underwater with live actors and then blended with special effects (Wētā FX) to create a modern animated-type live feel to these unique films. It took over a year-and-a-half to develop the new motion picture capture system used.
