Located at the former Bon Ton Department Store site, the casino is just 60 miles off Manhattan and is being hailed as the savior of the Newburgh Mall, which was “almost ready to fold”.
Bringing Dollars to Hudson Valley
According to Genting, the opening of Resorts World Hudson Valley casino will create 250 new full-time jobs with an average annual pay of $72,000, including salaries and benefits. The company also employed another 250 workers during the construction of the casino while spending a total of $50 million during that phase, up from its original $32 million budget.
Resorts World Hudson Valley Casino is also projected to contribute $65 million in annual taxes intended to support New York’s public education. To date, Resorts World properties in the Empire State have contributed more than $3.6 billion in aid of New York’s public schools.
The soon-to-open casino is Genting’s third gambling destination in New York. The company also owns and operates Resorts World New York City in Queens and Resorts World Catskill in Montecillo. Across those three properties, Genting has invested more than $1.2 billion in New York.
Resorts World Hudson Valley Casino
The 50,000-square-foot facility will feature 1,200 slot machines and 82 electronic games and sports betting. It will have the company’s signature Bar360 which will give guests a 360-degree view of the casino.
The sports bar will be branded as the Resorts World Bet Sports Bar and will show sporting events live on a ring of 8 overhead TV sets while encouraging its guests to place bets using their mobile devices using the company’s Resorts World App.
In an effort to make Resorts World Hudson Valley feel like a comfortable place for locals to patronize, the casino features murals of different Hudson Valley landmarks including the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and the Bear Mountain Bridge.
Resorts World Catskill
The Newburgh Mall casino – located on Route 300 near Interstate 84 and 87, is just 44 miles away from another Genting property, Resorts World Catskill in Sullivan County. Built on what was the former Concord Hotel, the Catskill casino has a gaming area of 65,000 square feet and features 2,150 slot machines, 112 table games, and an 18-story hotel with 332 rooms and suites.
Resort World Catskill is operated by Empire Resorts, a subsidiary of the Malaysian-based Genting Group. Empire Resorts also has a subsidiary called Monticello Raceway Management which operates the Monticello Raceway and Casino, also in Sullivan County.
The 230-acre Monticello property has one of the largest all-weather horse racing courses in the United States. It has a gaming compound that has 1,110 VGMs and 40 electronic game positions on 45,000 square feet of space, with a separate area for high-limit gamblers.
Aside from its gambling-related businesses, Kuala Lumpur-based Genting is also into property development, plantation, life sciences, biotechnology, oil and gas, e-commerce, energy, and information technology.
