- Gov. Tony Evers and the Sokaogon Chippewa Community signed an agreement to allow sports betting at Mole Lake Casino & Lodge.
- The Sokaogon Chippewa Community is the 5th tribe to be approved for sports betting operations in the state.
- Mole Lake Casino is located just seven miles off Crandon, Wisconsin.
Sports betting is coming soon to Mole Lake Casino near Crandon, Wisconsin.
That’s because the Office of the Governor issued an official statement last Friday announcing that Gov. Tony Evers and Chairman Robert Vanzile Jr. of the Sokaogon Chippewa Community have signed an agreement that will allow the tribe to operate legal sports betting at the Mole Lake Casino & Lodge and other locations within its reservation.
Gov. Evers called it a win-win situation for everyone involved:
Chairman VanZile agreed with the governor:
Original Gaming Compact Amended
The new deal amends the Sokaogon Tribe’s original gaming compact with the state and opens the door for the tribe to offer wagering on sports and other events within its reservation. The signed document will now head to the U.S. Department of Interior where it will undergo a 45-day review before sports wagering could launch. If all goes well, Mole Lake Casino will have its sports betting operation ready for the Football College bowl games and Super Bowl LVII next February.
The Sokaogon Chippewa tribe is the fifth tribe to have its original gaming compact with the state amended. The Oneida Nation was the first tribe to do so, and for a time was the only one to operate wagering in the state. The Oneida opened a temporary sportsbook at Oneida Casino last November. The permanent betting shop launched last April. Two months earlier, the Oneida became the first tribe to launch mobile sports betting in the state via its Oneida Casino Sportsbook Mobile App.
Wisconsin has also amended the gaming compacts of the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin and the Forest County Potawatomi. Last August, the state and the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa also entered into a deal to allow retail and mobile sports betting at Hayward’s Sevenwinds Casino.
