I’ve been very impressed with Spain so far, as they marched to the Last 8 without any resistance. The team won all four games so far, allowing only one goal in the process.

Rodri has been fantastic in the middle of the pitch, while young guns like Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal provide purpose and penetration up front. The team is flying, but there are serious question marks about the competition faced so far.

Italy is a team in transition, Croatia is way too old, and Georgia doesn’t have enough quality to trouble any of the favorites. Spain’s true tests lie ahead. The team will face Germany next and then France/Portugal in the last 4.

If you plan on backing Spain to win the title, you should bet on them to progress in the next three games. The cumulative odds will most certainly be higher than the +400 available right now, so don’t bet on Spain to win outright.

Germany (+450)

• Last 8 opponent: Spain

EURO 2024 has been fantastic for Germany so far. They started with a 5-1 victory over Scotland, won the group, and then beat Denmark by 2-0 in the Last 16. Everything’s great, on paper, and the nation believes.

However, a few shaky moments suggest Germany might be weaker than it appears. For a start, the team struggled against Switzerland, arguably the strongest opponents so far. The hosts had to rely on a late equalizer and looked harmless for most of the game.

Then against Denmark, Germany were lucky to stay on level when VAR overturned a goal and then received a penalty a minute later. Both decisions were marginally correct, but mostly because of luck.

Germany can be wasteful in front of goal, so going behind against a top opponent could be an issue. I have some concerns about the clash against Spain, even if Jens Lehmann believes the Spaniards are too young.

The odds for Germany are not high enough, so I wouldn’t back them to win EURO 2024.

France (+450)

• Last 8 opponent: Portugal

France might be the hardest team to evaluate left. The nation’s defense is the best in the tournament, which is enough for them to be among the favorites. At the same time, France has been very wasteful in the EUROs so far.

They miss too many chances, which could be a problem in the upcoming games. The big question is why a team with so many quality forwards struggles to find the net. Where are their problems coming from?

I don’t have a simple answer, but it might have to do with Mbappe’s injury. Their main man up front broke his nose in the opening game and even feared a return could be impossible. The shock from that injury disrupted France’s rhythm, but their defense was able to cover.

Portugal are in the tougher part of the bracket and suffer from Roberto Martinez’s decision to play Ronaldo all the time. Even if they beat France, winning two more games against top-tier opponents will be very tough.

It’s also unrealistic to expect Turkey to go all the way, even if they play with fantastic energy and support from the crowd. The team lacks the quality to win the tournament. The same can be said about the Netherlands, who have been too inconsistent.

This leaves us with my dark horse for the tournament – Switzerland. The cohesion in this team is on another level, they have multiple top players, and they have all the confidence in the world.

If the Swiss win against England, as I predict in my Last 8 best bets, the road to the final will be open. This team is very good, so getting +1400 is fantastic value,
