Scottie Scheffler (+450) is the odds-on favorite to win the 2024 Masters. Rahm was close second when odds were posted months ago, but the reigning champion’s odds have since moved all the way down from +900.
Rory McIlroy, who is still searching for his first coveted green jacket, is tied with Rahm’s odds to win the Masters. They have both an implied win probability of 9.1% compared to Scheffler’s 10% if we trust the 2024 Masters betting odds.
As an aside, Tiger Woods’ Masters winner odds are well down the board at +10000. The iconic veteran is a longshot to win the 2024 Masters, with an implied probability of winning of just 1%.
Woods entered his first tournament of 2024 at The Genesis Invitational, where he ultimately withdrew due to an illness in the second round.

Scottie Scheffler (+450)
Scheffler is favored to win the Masters and PGA Championship. Additionally, he is the co-favorite to win the U.S. Open and the Open Championship at Bovada. 2024 is obviously expected to be another big year for the 2022 Masters champion.
Currently, Scheffler ranks first in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) rankings. With a total of 533.53 points, Scheffler holds nearly a 200-point advantage over McIlroy as of April 9, 20241.
Tournament Form
The 27-year-old native of Ridgewood, New Jersey, has been in top form on the PGA Tour since the 2022 season. Scheffler dominated the links with four PGA tournament victories, including the 2022 Masters.
Despite not winning a major last season, Scheffler won the “fifth” major of the year at the 2023 Players Championship. Scheffler also won the 2023 WM Phoenix Open in February.

Scheffler is in the midst of a torrid pace, with back-to-back wins in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship. In Scheffler’s latest effort, he was in sharp form in the Texas Children’s Houston Open.
With a T2 finish, Scheffler has recorded a top-3 finish in four of his previous four events! Additionally, Scheffler closed out 2023 with a win in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
Stats & Performance
Through the 2023 season, Scheffler ranked atop the PGA Tour in several important metrics. He was first in Strokes Gained: Total, Approach the Green, and Off the Tee. Additionally, Scheffler had the lowest scoring average on the PGA Tour at 68.629 per tournament.
Also, the star was second in scrambling from the rough. It’s an underrated metric, which measures the ability to bounce back after getting into trouble off the green and fairway. In 2024, Scheffler has remained strong scrambling from the rough, as he is ninth with a 69.23% success rate2.

Scheffler is picking up right from where he left off last season. His top odds of winning the Masters in 2024 are not a surprise. It’s hard to ignore Scheffler’s chances at Augusta National. The guy has been close to unstoppable for a while.
Jon Rahm (+1200)
The defending Masters champ is back with his former peers on the PGA Tour after he departed to LIV Golf. The Spaniard is coming off a win at the 2023 Masters and the 2021 U.S. Open two years prior.
Since leaving the PGA Tour, Rahm has been unable to acquire points toward the OWGR. Nevertheless, he still ranks third in the world with 256 points.
Tournament Form
The last time we saw Rahm in a PGA Tour event was a T18 performance at the Tour Championship in August. He had a rough go of it in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, finishing T37, T31, and T18.
Rahm responded with a win at the Ryder Cup alongside Team Europe, but his last push in the PGA Tour wasn’t his best form. Earlier in the season, however, Rahm was the hottest player in golf.
The superstar won The Sentry, The American Express, The Genesis Invitational, and Masters in 2023. Although Rahm went out with a whimper after a hot start, he had the best comprehensive resume on the PGA Tour last year.

Rahm has finished in the top 10 through his first three LIV Golf events. He’s still searching for his maiden LIV win, but he is in strong form overall. Rahm most recently finished T8 in Hong Kong.
Stats & Performance
Rahm was among the best statistical golfers on the PGA Tour last season. However, his numbers regressed towards the end of the year, and he was unable to maintain his red-hot form.
In 2023, the Spaniard finished third in scoring average at 69.912 on the PGA Tour. Additionally, Rahm was third in birdie average and second in Shots Gained: Total, 2.0323.

Overall, Rahm has been playing well, but the 55.71% of fairways hit is concerning for the Masters. Missing too many fairways at Augusta National can cripple a golfer’s tournament.
Rory McIlroy (+1200)
McIlroy has been regarded as one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour for over a decade. On June 19, 2011, the Northern Irishman won the first major of his career at the U.S. Open.
A year later, he captured the 2012 PGA Championship title and then followed up with the 2014 Open Championship and 2014 PGA Championship titles. Did anyone foresee McIlroy going the next decade without another win in a major?
While the golfer won the FedEx Cup Championship in 2016, 2019, and 2022, he hasn’t won another major since 2014. He’s had a lot of success, but a green jacket has evaded him throughout his career.
Tournament Form
The most frustrating aspect of McIlroy’s major drought is how well he has played otherwise. Over the last five years, McIlroy has won ten PGA tournaments. The most recent was the 2023 Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in July for the 34-year-old.
Overseas, McIlroy won the European Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic on Jan. 21. The guy has done everything but win another major. He’s come close and been competitive several times, though his putter is known to betray him.
Since winning the 2023 Scottish Open, McIlroy hasn’t been back to the top of the podium and has struggled thus far this season. The native of Northern Ireland hasn’t finished in the top 20 in all five tournaments he’s entered this year.

Nonetheless, McIlroy is regularly in the hunt at Augusta National. He’s been close to winning the competition several times since 2015. McIlroy has five top-10 performances, including the runner-up position in 2022.
Last season was McIlroy’s worst showing at the Masters. He failed to make the cut after shooting +5 through the first two rounds.
Stats & Performance
McIlroy is regarded as one of the most consistent golfers on the PGA Tour. He hasn’t gotten off to a fast start this year, but I expect McIlroy to get on track soon. Augusta National could very well be McIlroy’s breakout showing of 2024.
If McIlroy is going to win, he needs to shake off the jitters on the green. He’s notoriously struggled to finish holes with a strong putter. Last season, McIlroy was 65th in Strokes Gained: Putting.
As expected, though, he was dominant at almost everything else, with leading numbers in driving distance and second in Strokes Gained: Total, Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, and scoring average4.

Thus far, in 2024, the putter has been letting him down more than ever. After getting into a position to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational through the first two rounds, McIlroy struggled to finish strong for a dreadful score of 76 on Sunday. Ultimately, he fell out of contention to finish T21.
Similar woes followed McIlroy to Bay Hill for The Players Championship, where he finished T19 and shot a 72 in the final round. However, there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. In his prep tournament for the Masters, McIlroy finished 3rd after shooting a blistering hot 66 this past Sunday.

The driving from McIlroy has been superb again this year. Conversely, however, his putting woes have been present again, as well. Considering McIlroy’s 2024 Masters odds to win, you wouldn’t know he is struggling with his putter.
Nevertheless, McIlory flexed his full arsenal of skills at the Valero Texas Open. If it marks a turning point for McIlory, he bounced back at the perfect time this year. He should be among the leaders, but concerns with his putting in the final round are not going anywhere.

I will preface this by saying I would love to side with McIlroy. It would be a great time to watch him win his first green jacket while cashing a ticket simultaneously.
That being said, it pains me to bet on McIlroy due to his continual putting struggles in big spots. If you want a golfer who has proven to be more clutch over the last few years, Scheffler is hard to beat at the Masters.
Scheffler has the numbers and hardware to show for his hot form over the past few years. Over the last three seasons, he’s ranked 2nd, 1st, and 2nd thus far this season in overall scoring average. Additionally, Scheffler has led in GIR % and the top 5 in Strokes Gained: Total since 2021-22.
Along with the Masters’ longshot bets, we still like Scottie Scheffler despite his odds dropping to +450 . He’s the man to beat in 2024, so Scheffler is my pick to win the 2024 Masters.
