The Open 2024 Sleepers: Does MacIntyre Stay Hot in Scotland?

Going after the best 2024 British Open sleepers can lead to lucrative prizes. The top golf betting sites offer fantastic returns on anyone outside of the main favorites.

This highly anticipated tournament at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland presents one more opportunity to capture glory on golf’s largest of stages. Will a golfer pull off an unlikely upset at Royal Troon?

Below, check out the best sleepers for the British Open, a complete analysis, and my top bets!

2024 The Open Sleepers: Summary

Patrick Cantlay (+5000)Sportsbetting.ag
Robert MacIntyre (+3000)Bovada
Sungjae Im (+7000)Bovada
Corey Conners (+8000)Everygame

These four golfers afford bettors the best opportunity to cash a huge ticket to win The Open Championship! Continue reading to find my reasoning for each selection:

Patrick Cantlay (+5000)

32-year-old Patrick Cantlay is getting impressive value to win the 2024 Open Championship. He’s one of the top wagers to consider with a price of +5000 or greater at Bovada!

As a +5000 sleeper, Cantlay has an implied probability of winning the British Open of 2%. Despite those long odds, Cantlay has a stronger than 2% chance to win.

The native of Long Beach, California, is playing some of his best golf of the year. Cantlay was in the hunt for the U.S. Open title at Pinehurst on June 16. He shot four-under-par to finish T3 — two strokes off Bryson DeChambeau’s lead.

That was the second T3 performance for Cantlay in his previous five tournaments. He followed up by bagging yet another top 5 finish in the Travelers Championship on June 23.

Cantlay’s T5 finish was his fourth effort in the top 5 since The Genesis Invitational in February. He’s going to have a real shot at winning the first major championship of his career if he can maintain this form.

Although Cantlay didn’t enter the Scottish Open, he should be fresh and ready to hit the ground running at Royal Toon. Players who passed on the Scottish Open generally have a better price now, so that’s a bonus, with undeniable value on Cantlay at +5000!

Currently, Cantlay ranks 8th in the OWGR rankings. Additionally, he is well ahead of the PGA Tour average, with an SG: Total rating of 0.739. Cantlay has never won a major title, but he has some big wins on his resume, including the BMW Championship twice and the Tour Championship.

Robert MacIntyre (+3000)

After winning the Scottish Open on home soil, the man of the hour has an opportunity to win back-to-back tournaments at home in Scotland. Only this time, the stakes are much higher in the final major championships of the year.

There won’t be many fan favorites much larger than Robert MacIntyre in this tournament. There also aren’t many better sleepers for The Open than the 27-year-old from Oban, Scotland.

MacIntyre is having a strong season and would like nothing more than to win on home soil. He had one of the best performances of his career in the PGA Championship in May. After finishing T13 in the Myrtle Beach Classic, MacIntyre finished T8 at Valhalla Golf Club!

The Scot won the first PGA Tour title of his career only two tournaments later in the Canadian Open. MacIntyre finished 16-under par to hold off a charging field in Hamilton. Despite having a letdown in the U.S. Open to miss the cut, MacIntyre battled back to finish T16 in the Travelers Championship.

Before this year, MacIntyre hadn’t won a single PGA Tour tournament. Now, since June 2, the surging Scottish player has won two events! Currently, MacIntyre ranks 29th in SG: Total (0.777) and seventh in scoring average (69.27) — both ahead of the PGA average in 2024.

MacIntyre spent the last few days celebrating his Scottish Open win. The party involved downing copious amounts of whiskey with his father, so will he be ready for the British Open? With unwavering confidence and the home crowd behind him, it likely won’t impact him much on the golf course.

Consider backing the red-hot MacIntyre to follow up last week with an even bigger win at Royal Troon! At +3000, the betting value on this wager is almost unmatched at Bovada.

+3000

Sungjae Im (+7000)

For more British Open sleepers, consider including 26-year-old Sungjae Im on your card. Since missing the cut in the PGA Championship, Im has been locked in on the golf course.

After yet another stellar performance in the Scottish Open, Im has finished in the top 10 in five of his previous eight tournaments. He started hot in Round 1 and maintained his solid form to give himself a chance on Sunday.

Im came up short, but it goes down as another productive assignment for the Korean. The 10th-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings shot 14-under par for a T4 finish in the Scottish Open.

The T4 performance at The Renaissance Club was the seventh top 10 effort for Im this season. Although Im hasn’t notched a win, he’s come awfully close. In the Travelers Championship, Im finished two shots behind Scottie Scheffler for a T3 finish.

The 24th ranked player, according to OWGR, Im is 24th on the PGA Tour with an SG: Total of 0.814 in the 2024 season. He’s well above average off the tee with his driver. Currently, Im ranks 30th in SG: Off the Tee at 0.358.

According to the latest odds to win The Open, Im’s price indicates just a 1.4% probability to win! Nevertheless, my numbers have Im with a much better chance, so consider adding this confident golfer to your British Open bets!

+7000

Corey Conners (+8000)

32-year-old Canadian Corey Conners is one of those golfers who just always seems to be in the hunt. Conners’ odds to win tournaments routinely hover around +10000 to +6000. He won the 2019 and 2023 Valero Texas Open, but is searching for the first major title of his career.

If he keeps plugging away in his current form, there is an opportunity for him to shock the golf world at Royal Troon. It’s been a solid run for the Listowel, ON, native as of late, with three top-10 finishes in three of his last five starts.

Additionally, Conners has notched at least six top-20 showings since T11 in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on April 28. Consistency has been the name of the game for Conners, as has yet to miss a cut in any PGA Tour tournament this season!

If you check out Conners’ stats this season, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. He ranks among the best golfers in several important metrics on the PGA Tour in 2024. Conners is fourth in SG: Approach the Green (0.853), seventh in SG: Tee-to-Green (1.226), and 14th in SG: Total (1.027).

Additionally, Conners is sixth in Greens in Regulation Percentage (71.13%)! There is a lot to like about his chances despite the lack of a major championship in his resume. If you don’t want to bet on Conners to win, at least consider his British Open prop bets.

The way I see it, however, Conners’ value at +8000 is too much to pass up for your British Open sleeper picks!
