According to the women’s 2024 March Madness Sweet 16 betting odds, South Carolina is the most likely team to advance to the Elite Eight. The tournament favorite is a 16-point favorite over the Indiana Hoosiers in the Sweet 16.

The Gamecocks are the only double-digit favorite in this round. Meanwhile, after a scare against West Virginia in the last round, Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes are favored by 7.5 points over the Colorado Buffaloes.

Before proceeding, I strongly encourage reading through The Sports Geek’s March Madness betting guide for an array of tips for the NCAA Tournament. Now, let’s delve into my March Madness women’s Sweet 16 best bets for what should be a thrilling round.

South Carolina Gamecocks (-16) vs. Indiana Hoosiers

South Carolina (35-0) stayed perfect this season with a wildly impressive 88-41 victory over North Carolina in the Round of 32. It was yet another team win for the Gamecocks, as five players scored in the double digits.

That has been the hallmark of this Gamecocks team. While Clark and JuJu Watkins are special players, no squad come compete with South Carolina when it comes to depth.

Kamilla Cardoso deserves the spotlight, though she has plenty of help from her fellow starters and off the bench. The bench scored 51 points in the win over the Tar Heels!

It was a similar story in the tournament opener against Presbyterian, and the regular season for that matter. South Carolina’s depth and ability to find success with any combo on the floor separates them from Indiana (27-5), in my opinion, by more than 20 points.

Despite the lack of top-10 scorers nationally, South Carolina is second in the NCAA with 86.3 points per game. The Hoosiers are 15th, with an average of 79.6 points.

The numbers are comparable, but only at this end of the floor. The Gamecocks are much more physical and active on the defensive floor than Indiana. Teri Moren’s unit is 173rd as opposed to South Carolina’s 11th ranking defensively1.

South Carolina vs. Indiana Betting Pick

The Gamecocks are on a mission and the Hoosiers aren’t going to get in their way. After beating Presbyterian, 91-39, and North Carolina, 88-41, there is no question who the most complete team is in the NCAAW Tournament.

The large discrepancy in talent between South Carolina and Indiana can be summed up in their NET rankings. South Carolina ranks well ahead of the field, while Indiana is down in 14th2.

While Sydney Parrish and Mackenzie Holmes make for an impressive duo in the starting lineup, the Hoosiers have zero depth on the bench.

For the first pick of your NCAAB Tournament women’s Sweet 16 best bets, consider laying the points on the Gamecocks in what should be a 22-point win or more.

The Bet
SC Gamecocks (-16)

Texas Longhorns (-5) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs

The Texas Longhorns (33-4) look to make it 14 wins in their previous 15 matches in the Sweet 16. They are on the heels of a textbook 11-point victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Second Round.

Aaliyah Moore and Madison Booker scored 21 points each to lead the Longhorns to an impressive performance. DeYona Gaston was the next highest scorer, with nine points off the bench.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs (33-3) had a similar experience in the previous round, as they bypassed the Utah Utes for a 77-66 win. Like the men’s squad, the Bulldogs benefited from playing a relatively easy schedule in the West Coast Conference.

However, so far so good for Gonzaga, who opened the event with a 75-56 win over UC Irvine in the Round of 64. Texas will present a notable uptick in competition, however.

The team does just about everything better on the floor than Gonzaga. Offensively these teams are similar statistically, with roughly 80 points scored per game, but the strength of schedule reveals a significant difference.

Texas vs. Gonzaga Betting Pick

Only South Carolina and UConn rank higher than Texas in the NCAA’s NET rankings. They are two spots better than Iowa and nine positions ahead of Gonzaga.

This season, the Bulldogs’ only win over a ranked opponent was back on Nov. 26, 2023. They beat Stanford in an impressive performance, 96-78, but came up short in their only other ranked matchup against Louisville, 81-70.

Texas is ranked higher than both teams. The Longhorns will be the toughest opponent the Zags have faced this season.

The point spread for this one appears a few points too short. I expect Texas to win by eight or more to advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAAW Tournament. Moore and Booker take this game over to send Gonzaga packing.

The Bet
Texas Longhorns (-5)

USC Trojans (-3.5) vs. Baylor Bears

As Clark runs through the college basketball record books, another excellent player is chewing through the competition in the Pac-12.

JuJu Watkins does not get as much attention as Clark, but she can dominate games similarly. The 6-foot-2 freshman is averaging 26.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per contest. In 32 games, she is shooting 40.7% from the field and 32.6% from three3.

After Clark leaves for the WNBA, a new women’s college basketball star will take over. There is a decent chance that Watkins could be the next big thing. The USC star is only a freshman, but Clark is the only player who has scored more points per game than Watkins.

In the first two rounds, the star led the Trojans to an 87-55 win over Texas A&M-CC and a 73-55 victory over Kansas. The guard isn’t doing it alone. McKenzie Forbes has been a big contributor, scoring 20 points in the Round of 32 win.

The USC Trojans (29-5) improved to 14-1 in their previous 15 games with the victory. On the other side, the Baylor Bears (27-7) just managed to survive with a 75-72 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies in the last round.

USC vs. Baylor Betting Pick

Watkins continues to grow as a player with each passing game. She is getting better with more experience, which gives the Trojans a chance in the NCAA Tournament.

The Bears don’t have the perimeter defense to prevent Watkins from going off in another standout performance. Once she finds her rhythm, Baylor isn’t going to have an answer to keep pace.

The NCAA’s NET metrics do not rank Baylor well, either. The No. 5 seed is 18th in NET, which puts them behind teams like Oregon State, Kansas State, and Colorado. USC is 10th with a chance to move up given Watkins’ progress.

-3.5 points does not look like enough here. Even if it’s a close game late, Watkins should take over to give the Trojans the edge. I suggest backing USC to cover the spread for your March Madness women’s 2024 Sweet 16 betting picks.

The Bet
USC Trojans (-3.5)
